Wired for Sound Collaborators

Once the road trip is wrapped and we arrive home to South Africa, Wired for Sound further collaborates with an ever growing number of professional musicians who are inspired by the music collected and who can add that last touch to certain tracks. Julio Sigauque: Guitar

Born in Mozambique, Julio Sigauque graduated with a distinction in Jazz and Performance from the University of Cape Town School of Music and has been a member of the band Freshlyground since 2004. Julio is musical director of Wired for Sound and is the project’s lead collaborator. www.freshlyground.com

Lucas Khumalo: Bass

Lucas is a Cape Town based professional bassist, playing bass for the Jimmy Dludlu band for over a decade. He has collaborated with a number of prominent South African artists. Lucas co-wrote and produced Cape Town based Mozambican singer Jaco Maria's award winning CD “The Storyteller".

Zolani Mahola: Vocals

Zolani is the lead singer of award winning South African band Freshlyground. In 2010 Zolani and Shakira performed the official song of the FIFA World Cup, ‘Waka Waka’. Zolani is a talented actress as well as a loved personality in South Africa, Glamour Magazine declared her one of South Africa's most iconic women. www.freshlyground.com

Derek Gripper: Classical Guitar

In his recording “One Night on Earth: Music from the Strings of Mali”, South African guitarist Derek Gripper arranged and performed the music of the kora, the 21 string African harp-lute, Songlines Magazine called it ”a staggering achievement,” selecting the recording as a Top of the World Album in 2013. www.derekgripper.com

Texito Langa: Drums and Percussion

Born in Maputo, Mozambique, Texito Langa is a Cape Town based Drummer-Percussionist, composer and philosopher. He is founder and vocalist of Mighty Vibration, a Spiritual Conscious Reggae Project and owner of Ancient Root Lab Productions. www.texitolanga.com

Peter Cohen: Drums

A stalwart in the South African music scene, Peter Cohen has been the drummer for Bright Blue, Mango Groove and currently plays for Freshlyground.

Albert Frost: Guitar

Albert is one of South Africa’s most versatile and accomplished guitarists finding success with bands and artists from the Blues Broers and Robin Auld to Ali-Farka Toure, Arno Carstens and Karen Zoid. Galina Juritz: Violin

Galina is an electric violinist for the classical music, Afro-jazz and electronics fusion group CODA. She has performed with a number of fusion bands, dance productions, chamber ensembles, orchestras and South Africa’s top solo artists. www.codaafrica.co.za

Buddy Wells: Saxophone

A graduate of the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town with a First Class B.Mus Honours in Jazz Performance, Buddy Wells is an accomplished saxophonist, composer and arranger who has partnered and performed with a host of South African and international musicians.

Helder Gonzaga: Bass

Helder is a gifted Mozambican bass player currently living in Maputo. He has performed with countless bands and musicians in Mozambique and South Africa, including Jimmy Dludlu and Tucan Tucan, and is in high demand as a session musician.

Toni Paco: Percussion

Toni is an exceptionally talented Mozambican musician based in Maputo. He is a composer, drummer and percussionist on the recent album “Marrabenta Music from Mozambique: Yinguica”. Toni has played with Tucan Tucan, Jimmy Dludlu, and Freshlyground.

Lee Thompson: Trumpet

A Jazz Performance graduate from the University of Cape Town, versatile trumpeter and creative director of Silent Revolution Music, Lee has established himself as dynamic and highly productive musician. His collaborations include an enviable number of prominent national and international musicians.

David Langemann: Mixing

Dave is a Cape Town based recording engineer with 22 years live and studio experience. He has a strong interest in recording acoustic based instruments. World music, jazz and classical styles are among his favorites. Dave has, amongst others, engineered and/or mixed Abdullah Ibrahim, Jonny Clegg, Freshlyground, Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Tony Cedras (Paul Simon band), and Luna Paige.
